The book is a result of the international scientific conference “Empires, Borders, Policies (XIX - early XX century)". The academic meeting was held in Sofia University in February 2015 and was attended by colleagues from Bulgaria, Russia and Serbia. Extended versions of conference materials are published in the volume, which is devoted to the 145th anniversary of the publishing of the decree about the reestablishment of the Bulgarian Exarchy. The book was realized under a project of the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" – Center of Excellence in Humanities "Alma Mater", the Regional Research Program, with the financial support of the Scientific Research Fund of the Ministry of Education and Science
