"Bulgarian connection" in the Italian anti-fascist movement between
the two world wars in the 20th century.

On October 10, 2023, the University Center for Regional Research and
Analysis (UCRSA) organized a public lecture by Prof. Richard Bosworth,
which was dedicated to the topic "Giovanni Amendola. The 'Perfect
Anti-Fascist' and the obscuring of his relationship with Cornelia
Pavlova , Bulgaro-French journalist". In auditorium 21A of the Faculty
of History, the guest introduced the audience to the personality of
Cornelia Pavlova, who played an important role in the life of one of
the most prominent anti-fascists in Italy - Giovanni Amendola.

Prof. Richard Bosworth began his teaching career in the late 1960s at
the University of Sydney, subsequently teaching history at
The University of Western Australia, the University of Reading and the
University of Oxford, where he is currently an Emeritus Fellow at
Jesus College. He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Social
Sciences and the Australian Academy of Humanities.

Prof. Bosworth's research interests focus on Italy's history in the
20th century, as well as migration history. Prof. Bosworth has an
impressive number of publications - 30 monographs, as many books
chapters and nearly 100 articles. Many of his studies have been
awarded prizes, and the most popular among them are: "Italy, the Least
of the Great Powers: Italian Foreign Policy before the First World
War" (1979), "Mussolini" (2002), "Mussolini's Italy : life under
fascist dictatorship, 1915-1945” (2005) and others.

The foreign guest was introduced by Prof. Ivan Parvev, academic
director of UCRSA. Afterwards, the political scientist Yavor Siderov
briefly described the special historical context in which the life of
Cornelia Pavlova passed. After the lecture, Prof. Bosworth was asked a
number of questions, which he answered comprehensively.

The subject of the anti-fascist resistance in Europe between the two
world wars is a multi-layered and, from a research point of view, a
difficult to interpret the subject. In this sense, Prof. Bosworth's
lecture certainly encouraged the students and teachers present to
reflect on the mentioned phenomenon, and why not to continue the study
of the little-known "Bulgarian trace" in the Italian anti-fascist
movement sketched by the guest.
