The topic of security is multidimensional and increasingly relevant in a globalized, dynamic, and ever more complex world. Within this context, the Balkan Peninsula retains its traditional strategic importance and remains in the focus of major geopolitical actors. For Bulgaria, regional stability and its relations with neighboring countries are of particular significance. As such, the issue of regional security continues to generate wide public and scholarly interest.
The present volume presents the outcomes of the second phase of the project entitled “Balkan Issues of Regional and National Security: Historical Aspects and Contemporary Dimensions”. It includes the research contributions presented at the academic seminar of the same name, held on 9 June 2022 in Conference Room 1 of the Rectorate of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski.” The event was jointly organized by the Faculty of History at Sofia University, the University Center for Regional Studies and Analyses (UCRSA), and the Master’s Program Diplomacy and Intelligence in the Balkans.
The second edition of the seminar (the first was held in 2021) brought together not only students and doctoral candidates from Sofia University, but also international researchers, including representatives from Bar-Ilan University in Israel.
